Burns's Pool on the Canonbie Permit Beat

There are four permit beats which 2 on the Liddle and 2 on the Esk, all beats provide excellent opportunities for Salmon and Sea-Trout, with the Newcastleton and Langholm beats proving more productive later in the season when runs of salmon make their way into the upper reaches.

The Canonbie beat is popular with both local and visiting anglers and has some good holding pools, long runs and is good for night fishing.

The Langholm beat provides fast flowing stretches and can provide some excellent sport when water conditions are favourable.

The Liddle beats provide some excellent fishing off the beaten track and worm fishing is allowed on both beats, salmon have been know to run straight through to Newcastlton as early as May.

No. 1 - In the ESK - on both banks from Byeburnfoot to above Bell'sWeir.

No. 2 - In the ESK -

(a) On the left bank from Craig/Potholm March to the point opposite Craigcleuch Burn,

(b) On both banks from Craigcleuch Burn to  Bar Entry

(c) On the right bank from Bar Entry to the head of Crannelholm.

No. 3 - In the LIDDLE - Right bank from the Muirburn to the Notice Board, just above the junction with the Esk.

No. 4 - In the LIDDLE - On both banks from Sandholm Pool to Whithaugh Scaur. On the right bank from Whithaugh Scaur to Gullet Pool so far as belonging to the Buccleuch Estates Limited. On both banks from the Gullet Pool to Kershopefoot. On the right bark from Kershopefoot to the Burnmouth/Lawston March.
